One night after performing with his Maybach Music Group posse at the 2012 BET Awards, Rick Ross has dropped a new single off his upcoming album, God Forgives, I Don’t, due July 31st. “Hold Me Back,” when compared to previously-released singles “So Sophisticated” featuring MMG label mate Meek Mill and the Usher-assisted cut “Touch N’ You,” is the hardest, most “BMF”-style cut off the new album to be released so far. Listen to Rick Ross’ new single “Hold Me Back” below.

“Hold Me Back” finds Rozay spilling his guts on those who’ve tried to stop his shine; you can think of it as a more aggressive version of Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like.” And in typical Rozay fashion, “Hold Me Back” talks up a life of drug dealing and hard-living to get by. Over a menacing beat the rapper spits wise about making ends meet by doing what he does best: hustling. Later, Ross gives props to his mom for working three jobs to keep a roof over his head as a child so at least the man knows who got him started.

Neither of Ross’ first two singles have made significant traction on the charts — “So Sophisticated” sits at Number 99 while “Touch N’ You” has fared slightly better, now at Number 22. It’s therefore an interesting move for Ross to release a hard-as-nails banger right now given his previous two song’s lack of mainstream success. However when you’re the bawse, you call the shots.
