People are quick to throw around the term “prodigy” these days. But then you come across someone like Texas-bred blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr., and there’s just no other descriptors that seems to do the man justice. Clark began playing the guitar at age 12 and by his mid-teens he was already considered one of the foremost champions of vintage blues guitar-based rock in his home state.
.
Word traveled quickly of Clark’s mind-blowing ax prowess. So much so that guitar hero Eric Clapton invited the young shredder to Chicago in 2010 for his Crossroads Guitar Festival, which featured the likes of B.B. King, John Mayer, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy.
.
Now, earlier this year, Clark debuted his refined bluesy chops via the widely-praised EP, The Bright Lights. Chock full of down-South grit and tales of the heartbreakin’ blues, the 4-song collection is just a preview of what appears to be an ear-splitting, note-bending career for this talented musician.
