Azealia Banks is about to release her new mixtape, Fantasea, this week but first the rapper (are we allowed to call her that still?) has dropped a brand new track called “Neptune.”

The mixtape is mermaid themed and so is the cover art for the new song, which features British rapper/singer Shystie. The number is a little slower and more meandering than some of Banks’ other tracks, at least in terms of the production. But don’t worry: Once she starts spitting the rhymes there is a shot-fire flow that balances out the instrumentals. Listen below:

This is only one of 18 tracks on Fantasea. Banks tweeted yesterday that the disc will involve “15 Azealia Banks originals and 3 remixes.” She added, “I originally started this mixtape with the intention of letting go a ton of old ideas… like songs I started writing but never finished. My ideas and concepts started to develop, so I changed the title and began to try & make the project more cohesive. Fantasea is almost kind of a first album of sorts….but it happened by mistake…. It’s weird. This is a test run… I tried a lot of cool things… Sounds I thought were progressive, beats made by close friends, different flowsss.”

What do you think of “Neptune”? We like it. We are usually partial to Banks’ more aggressive material so this feels like a new aspect of the singer being revealed. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
