When Green Arrow first appeared in comics, he was purposefully developed to share many qualities with Batman: his headquarters was an Arrowcave, he drove an Arrowcar and an Arrowplane, had a sidekick named Speedy, a secret identity as a billionaire playboy, and even used an Arrow-signal to be notified in times of crisis. So it should come as no surprise that the CW’s upcoming TV show “Arrow” features many similarities to Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins: a similar dark and gritty tone, a distant hero returning as a changed man to the people he once knew, and a guy who uses his newfound passion and skills to fight crime. This new trailer has it all, and sets up a character that looks much more intense than the comedy-friendly Oliver Queen we remember from “Smallville.”

Pretty badass, right? I liked this trailer way better than the first teaser for the show. Oh, and some geeks bigger than myself have also pointed out that the quick shot we see in the trailer of an arrow through an orange and black mask indicates a major DC Comics villain named Deathstroke could have a part to play in this series. He’s a mercenary assassin who is widely considered one of the best comic book villains of all time, so that’s another promising aspect of what could end up being a very entertaining series. “Arrow” will air on Wednesday nights at 8:00pm this fall on the CW.
