Christina Aguilera’s team on The Voice may be singing to a slightly different tune this season. The program has announced that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has joined the show as a mentor on Aguilera’s team.
.
Last nigh the show announced on Twitter, “Welcome Billie Joe (@BJAofficial) to #TeamXtina! We are ready to rock out in Season 3.” Armstrong and his family have revealed that they are huge fans of the show. Armstrong said in a statement that he admires The Voice because “it’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.” The singer added that working with Aguilera is “a lot of fun.”
.
Armstrong began taping his appearances on the show, which has been in production since June, on Wednesday. He joins the other previously announced mentors, Rob Thomas (Cee Lo Green’s team), Mary J. Blige (Adam Levine’s team) and Michael Buble (Blake Shelton’s team). The Voice’s third season premieres on September 10 on NBC so you’ll have to wait until then to see how these mentors work out.
.
We have to say we’re excited about what Armstrong could bring to the table this season. After a slew of previous mentors that lean toward the pop side (we still love you Kelly Clarkson), it will be interesting to see what a punk rocker has to offer the contestants.
.
How do you feel about Armstrong as a mentor for Aguilera’s team? Is this good or weird news? Tell us in the comments.
