Well, that was predictable. Yes, America sent sweet, “PEH-FECT” Hollie Cavanagh home, a place to which she will go, but without all the fanfare of ‘American Idol’’s patented HOMETOWN VISIT! The hometown visit got a lot of fanfare tonight, making it particular hard on whoever went home, but Hollie soldiered through and sang “The Climb” for the fiftieth time while Joshua and Jessica cried and Phil did not. Evil Phil.

The show opened with what may have been the drowsiest performance of “California Dreamin’” ever sung. The group sort of slogged through it while each took turns on a solo and the remaining three lip sycnhed the harmonies. Yes, Hollie it’s called lip synching.

Then there was the Ford commercial and once again Phil didn’t have to be there. If I’m everyone else, I’m going to be most angry when Phil gets a free car for winning while never having shown up to have to do one of those stupid commercials.

Jimmy seems to have thrown in the towel and accepted that Phillip is going to win, even though he may say otherwise. I say this because Jimmy praised Phil’s rendition of “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and I don’t know if you noticed, but that performance was misery. Ryan began calling people out one by one and then having them go back to the couches. It was boring. He asked Phillip about how it feels to be in this position after “working so hard for so long,” which is funny because nobody else thinks he works hard at all. That’s the biggest knock against this guy. I’m surprised he even bothers to put shoes on.

J.Lo performed. It is something that I cannot unsee. How does anybody take her seriously as a judge after she does that. I mean, she just really stinks up the joint. And come on! We get it, alright. You have a young, cute boyfriend. Shut it!

Tommy Motolla told Jimmy he was going to go to Jessica’s first concert. Jimmy didn’t elaborate, but I’m sure it’s less about hearing her sing and more about making her his child bride.

At one point, Joshua claimed to think Jennifer speaking in Spanish was sexy. For some reason, I just don’t think he thinks that. It makes me sad.

Steven’s overuse of the phrase “over the top” when judging is made worse by the fact that he clearly doesn’t understand that “over the top” is usually a negative.

And then Hollie left us. She knew she was going the second Jessica was sent to safety. You could sort of see the wind leave her sails. Well, she did better than anyone expected, so congratulations Hollie and always remember nobody’s peh-fect.
