Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly ha announced that singer Mariah Carey will be the newest judge on ‘American Idol.’ You’ll recall that the lineup of judges was pretty much destroyed when Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced they were leaving the show.

Deadline is reporting that Carey’s salary for the gig is more than $17 million for the next season, setting a new record for any reality series. The previous record was held by Jennifer Lopez for her stint on ‘American Idol.’

The studio exec didn’t want to comment on other aspects of the show, but it Tyler and Lopez’ departure was confirmed. He indicated their departure was a mutual agreement, but we have our doubts.
