If you don’t yet know this brunette beauty, you must have somehow managed to miss the first amazing season of Game of Thrones. Never fear, as the second season premiered last night, and you can easily catch up by tuning in next week. In any case, you’ll want to get acquainted with Emilia Clarke, as we believe her role as Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen to be the start of quite the headline-worthy career.

As often happens with the brightest stars, Emilia caught the acting bug at just three-years-old, when her mother took her to see a production of Show Boat. The passion stayed with her throughout her schooling, and eventually she ended up studying at the incredibly prestigious Drama Centre London.

Emilia acted in innumerable plays while in school, but her first professional, onscreen role was as Saskia Mayer on the BBC show Doctors.

Two years later, Emilia was asked to replace fellow British actress Tamzin Merchant as Daenerys Targaryen when Tamzin dropped out of Game of Thrones after shooting the pilot. Now, we can’t imagine anyone else in the role, as Emilia steals the show every time she steps onto the screen. Perhaps it’s just her character’s silvery-blonde hair that captures our attention, but somehow we think there’s more to it than that — we think we may be watching the debut of a major talent.
