James Franco plays a rapper in Harmony Korine’s film “Spring Breakers,” which is currently shooting on location in Florida.
.
But it’s not just any rapper — it’s a former MTV reality TV star and Soulja Boy affiliate named Riff Raff.
.
Riff Raff told Fuse that James is officially playing him in the movie, which stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine.
.
According to Riff Raff, director and writer Harmony Korine said, “‘Yeah, man, I want you to be in this movie, but we only got a certain timeframe’ or whatever,” Riff Raff said. “‘I wanted you in this movie with James Franco and Selena Gomez and Gucci Mane… But we’re already behind!’”
.
The “127 Hours” actor was originally set to play a different character. “James Franco was in the movie, but I was supposed to be in there also,” the rapper said. “Now James Franco is playing me.”
.
So James could completely get into it, Riff Raff sent him a few things that would assist in his character study. “I sent him a few things,” Riff Raff revealed. “But all you gotta do [to see how I dress] is search through my videos. I got a pretty distinct style, with the braids, the jewelry.”
.
And Riff Raff fully supports the casting decision.
.
“Even though I couldn’t be a part of this project, I’m still glad that James Franco could play the role of me,” he stated. “That’s like if Denzel Washington was playing the role of O.J. Simpson. Even though it’s not O.J. Simpson, O.J. Simpson still gotta be like, ‘Denzel Washington is playing me.’”
.
Meantime … we’re getting even more of a sense of how much fun Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez are having shooting the film …
.
The movie is about four college-age girls who decide to rob a fast food restaurant in order to pay for the annual getaway, and who get thrown in jail once they get there. A rapping drug and arms dealer (James) bails out the girls, and coaxes them to kill his nemesis, Arch. (Get it?)

The shoot looks like it has been a blast … and the paparazzi have been out in full force.
.
No word yet on a release date, but we’re guessing Spring 2013. Would make sense, right?
