Making a splash at its SXSW premiere earlier this year, Sellebrity is a documentary about the pervasiveness of paparazzi and the cultural effects that come from our constant consumption of others’ fame and fortune. With interviews from Jennifer Aniston, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Kid Rock, and more, the doc seems equally interested in trying to answer the questions of why people are so obsessed with celebrities and what effect that has on those targeted by it. Take a look at the trailer below!

Listen, I’m not a fan of paparazzi and their tactics at all, but from the look of it, this documentary seems to be telling the story only from the celebrity side of the lens and not giving the photographers a fair shake. Sure, they explain their actions a bit in the trailer, but they end up coming off as miserable human beings (maybe they are, I don’t know) and it seems to me that the story might be more effective if they humanized the “villains” a little bit instead of just making them overtly evil.

Sellebrity is currently looking for a distributor and is playing in the film festival circuit around the world, so we’ll have to wait and hope someone is interested enough to pick this up (or give it a VOD release) so we can all check it out.
