Last night on ‘Duets,’ Robin Thicke’s partner Olivia Chisolm was sent packing, making her the fourth straight female to be ousted from the show while no men have yet met that fate. Joining Olivia in the bottom two was the only other female contestant – and arguably the one with the most talent – Bridget Carrington. I guess this is not a controversy, because ‘Duets’ is not a big hit, but it should be noted. So there it is.
Up first was the aforementioned Carrington, who sang “Unforgettable” with her mentor John Legend. It was pretty good, I guess. I can’t tell. It sounded like “Unfrogettable.” I mean you could have closed your eyes and just assumed it was Nat King and Natalie Cole. I’m not sure that’s a compliment, but there it is.

Jennifer Nettles and J (no period) Rome duetted on “God Bless the Child,” and it was pretty great right up until the end when J Rome completely botched the big note (Or maybe he didn’t. Nobody said anything, but it really sounded out of tune to me.). But I have to say this – Jennifer Nettles is pretty impressive. She is also really, really annoying. She may the most annoying person currently on television, but for someone who is a country singer by trade, she can really do anything as evidenced by this and her next duet with John Glossen.

John and Jennifer did “God Bless the Child” and it was exactly like every single other John Glossen performance. Jennifer was out of this world, though. Back to John – every one of his performances is the same. I don’t know if that’s necessarily wrong – if you know who you are as an artist you should do what you do, but I find what John does technically impressive but incredibly boring. I would never voluntarily listen to John Glossen, so when he comes up on ‘Duets,‘ I immediately know I’m not gonna be into it. If you like the kind of cheesy ballads John sings week after week, you’re probably super into him. It’s all about what you like.

The thing that’s so interesting about Jason Farol is that he’s not a very good singer. Yes, he’s a better singer than me or maybe you if you’re not a singer, but all in all he’s just kind of whatever. BUT OH BOY THOSE DIMPLES! Jason Farol represents everything that stinks about competition reality. He’s the least talented person on a show filled with some very talented people and he’ll probably win because he’s the cutest. Happy Birthday, America! U!S!A U!S!A! U!S!A!
