Jennifer Lopez is not pleased with her ex-chauffeur, and she is making it known with a high-priced lawsuit. The singer is suing driver Hakob Manoukian for $20 million for extortion and defamation, claiming he threatened to release damaging information about her.
.
In the suit, Lopez claims Manoukian threatened to release “disruptive and potentially damaging” information about her unless she paid him $2.8 million. She also claims that an attorney for Manoukian, who sued Lopez, her manager Benny Medina and ex-husband Mark Anthony for breach of contract, demanded the money to avoid disclosing “sensitive and personal information that he had allegedly overheard.” This is an issue because Manoukian had signed a confidentiality agreement that prohibited him from disclosing anything he heard about Lopez’s business or family. According to E! News, Lopez’s lawsuit is technically a countersuit in response to Manoukian’s initial complaint and denies his allegations that she didn’t pay him his full salary.
.
Why did Manoukian threaten to disclose information about Lopez? Well, apparently the driver was upset after a disagreement between him and Medina. The suit says the driver then became “hostile and angry” toward Medina and “plotted to retaliate” against him and Lopez. The suit reads, “In the furtherance of this plot, he abruptly terminated his employment with Ms. Lopez and began to threaten her.”
.
Lopez is seeking $20 million in actual damages as well as unspecified exemplary and punitive damages, and injunctive relief preventing Manoukian from continuing to harass her. Lopez has yet to comment on the situation.
