If you don’t already have tickets to the upcoming Honda Civic Tour you may want to run out and buy them now. Incubus, who is co-headlining the tour with Linkin Park, have announced that they will be going on hiatus after the conclusion of the trek in September.
.
Frontman Brandon Boyd told Billboard, “We have no plans, to tell you the truth, at the moment. I have been tinkering around, potentially, with a second solo record. That’s probably the most likely scenario. But as far as Incubus right now, we’ll probably take another break. Hopefully it won’t be as long (as the five-year wait for ‘If Not Now, When?’) but what we’d like to do is arrive with the best of intentions and try to create music from a sense of urgency as well as purity and not necessarily based on a schedule. I know that can be frustrating for our listeners and stuff, but I think we’ll make better music as a result.”
.
Boyd also noted that changes on the band’s business side will affect the future output from the group. Legacy Recordings will release Incubus’ upcoming Incubus HQ Live on August 14 and the the band’s deal with Epic Records concluded with the release of 2011’s If Not Now, When?. Boyd said the band is “trying to get our bearings to what we should do next, just as a band but also a band that is off in new territory again… I’m personally very excited about being in complete control, being a total control freak. That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t sign with another record label at some point, but it would have to be very, very specific, not get into just a good old fashioned record deal again, if they even exist.”
.
He added about Epic, “There was a real lack of direction and leadership when we kind of needed it most. It was hard and it was frustrating, but it was also very telling for us and perhaps educational because we were forced into ingenuity… It forced us into thinking outside of that normal music industry paradigm we had gotten so accustomed to. So in that sense the lack of attention from our record label… was really good and really beneficial for us as a band because it gave us a sense of what we might be doing in the coming years.”
.
So, really, we can see why the band would want to take a break. It sounds like fans can expect a solo disc to arrive from Boyd to tide them over while the band determines what will come next. Are you bummed to hear about Incubus’ impending hiatus? Tell us in the comments.
