In a summer full of big budget action flicks, sci-fi epics, and superhero exploits, Oliver Stone’s Savages is exactly the kind of counter-programming that could be a surprise hit with audiences. Its intense, gritty style is a long way away from the ridiculous antics of Battleship, even though both movies share the same star. Taylor Kitsch leads a strong ensemble cast that includes Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, John Travolta, Salma Hayek, and Benicio del Toro in a drug-fueled kidnapping story that has romance and action alike. Synopsis: Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed.
