R&B singer R. Kelly has been forced to cancel a scheduled book launch appearance as well as two television interviews due to complications from a 2011 surgery.

TMZ reports that the singer was sidelined in Chicago, where he had surgery last year to have an abscess in a tonsil drained after days of severe pain. Now, it appears there may still be problems. In addition to tonight’s book launch party, R. Kelly has cancelled his scheduled appearances on the Today show as well as the Jimmy Fallon Show. Representatives for the singer issued the following statement:

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords. It is unclear how long Kelly may be sidelined.”
