Showtime
.
We’ve got news about “The Newsroom,” Ashley Tisdale rocking a ridiculous helmet on the set of “Sons of Anarchy,” some “Community” casting updates, and more. Check out some of this week’s hottest links in TV below!

.
If you’ve missed out on all the period drama of “Downton Abbey” so far, now’s probably a good time to get caught up. Word just came out that legendary film star Shirley MacLaine is joining the cast and will be facing off against Granny Wendy herself (Hook reference, anyone?), Maggie Smith, in the show’s upcoming season, which begins in the beginning of 2013.

Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom” aired this past Sunday, and it’s all the blogosphere has been talking about ever since. But if you’re like me and don’t have the cash to subscribe to HBO, the network has done something really awesome for us: they’ve put the entire pilot available commercial free on YouTube, so you can see what all the buzz is about!

Ashley Tisdale recently locked down a guest spot on the motorcycle gang drama “Sons of Anarchy,” and People Magazine has the first photo of her on set. Nice going, Tis – that helmet’s a good look for you. She’s playing a high-priced escort on the show, so she’ll probably be spending more time on her back than on the back of a motorcycle, ifyahknowwhatImean…

If you’ve been watching “Dexter,” you may be wondering what the future of the show is going to be. With the cliffhanger finale from last season leaving Deb and Dexter in a very interesting position, the producers of the show have confirmed that Season 8 will absolutely be the last one. Season 7 starts in the fall, so they’ve got a lot of work to do in two seasons to wrap up the story of Miami Metro’s favorite serial killer.

If you’re still watching “The Office,” I just want to take a second so we can all feel sorry for you. OK, moving on. B.J. Novak, who plays former intern Ryan on the show and was also an executive producer and writer for the program, has announced that he’ll be scaling back his involvement in the coming season. He’s no longer under contract as a producer or writer, and he’ll appear on the show as an actor, but not in every episode. Anyone disappointed? He was always an unlikeable douche anyway. In a related story, Steve Carell said that he doesn’t think it’s a good idea for Michael Scott to return to the show, even for a quick guest spot. No kidding, dude. It wasn’t a good idea for you to stick around as long as you did the first time around.

Greendale Community College won’t be the same with “Community” creator Dan Harmon running the show next season, but fans of the ridiculous antics of the NBC series can at least rest easy knowing that the entire cast is coming back for another season. Yes, that includes the cantankerous old geezer Chevy Chase, who apparently still doesn’t think the show is funny. What’s your deal, dude? You’re on one of the best shows on TV! We’ll see how “Community” changes when it starts up again in the fall.

As if the 30 Peter Pan movies in development aren’t enough (OK, I may be exaggerating slightly, but seriously – there are at least 3 that I know of), the boy who refuses to grow up is coming to the small screen. It takes place 10 years after the Lost Boys leave Neverland. What’s that? I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you over the sound of YET ANOTHER FREAKING FAIRY TALE STORY BEING ADAPTED INTO A TV SHOW OR MOVIE. Will this trend ever die?
