UPDATE: E! News is reporting that Britney Spears has officially signed on to become the newest judge on Simon Cowell’s X Factor. Perhaps as a sign of things to come, the deal makes Spears the highest paid judge on reality television — beating out American Idol’s Jennifer Lopez
.
Could it be?
.
It could! Britney is reportedly that much closer to being a judge Season Two of “The X-Factor,” according to Deadline.com.
.
Britney’s been up for the gig for months, according to a source, but there were developments over the weekend in which major deal points were agreed upon between Brit and the “X-Factor” powers-that-be.
.
The pop diva reportedly received a $10 million offer to join Fox’s singing competition, but word is that her salary will end up being more than that, probably closer to $15 million and possibly exceeding the $12 million Jennifer Lopez received on “American Idol” last season.
.
“X-Factor” judge Simon Cowell has nothing but praise for Britney.
.
“I’m fascinated by [her],” he said during a radio interview in February. “The fact that she’s one of the most talked about — not just pop stars but people — in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power. This girl has resilience. I would think that if she’s managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, (X Factor would be) a walk in the park. I would be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial. There’s a reason for that.”
.
Britney’s potential involvement with “The X-Factor” comes on the heels of Simon Cowell’s decision to replace first-season judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.
.
There had been buzz that Janet Jackson would join the judge line-up, but she backed out due to scheduling conflicts.
.
Other judges who were up for the gig have included Pink, Mariah Carey, and Fergie. LeAnn Rimes, Stacy Keibler and “Glee” star Darren Criss are reportedly up for “X-Factor” gigs as well — though the latter two were for hosting gigs. Darren reportedly already declined.
.
Will you tune in to “The X-Factor” if Britney is on board as a judge?
