The End Of Summer Is Nigh: Here Is A Round-up Of Trailers For Your Viewing Entertainment
Posted 8/17/2012

Lionsgate
.
Yes, the summer is starting to wind down. Last week we had a list of Oscar contenders and now we’ve got more an eclectic combo of movies you can check out. So get ready to go back to school, witness the return of The Arnold, enjoy madcap fun with professional dog thieves and more in this good mix of new previews.

.

Ten Years

.
Jamie Linden (We Are Marshall) brings us a glimpse into the lives of former classmates who reunite to see how far they’ve come since graduation with Ten Years. The ensemble cast brings to life the usual suspects you’d remember from high school; the jock (Chris Pratt) who hopes to relive the glory days, the nerd (Justin Long) who becomes successful, the musician(Oscar Issac) who doesn’t like his fame, the sweethearts who broke up (Rosario Dawson and Channing Tatum). The reunion takes its characters on a sentimental journey that is sure to give audiences a nostalgia trip.
.
Take-away: That awkward moment when Tatum’s current girlfriend (Played by his real-life wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum) asks why he and his sweetheart broke up and he replies, “I stayed as long as I could, I just needed to grow up.”
To which she replies, “So have you grown up now?”. Who will he choose? Find out when Ten Years hits theaters!
.

The Last Stand

.
Arnold is back! This time he is Sheriff Ray Owens, a retired L.A.P.D officer who moves to a quiet town in the hopes that his life of crime fighting is behind him. It is when a notorious drug lord escapes and races to the border outfitted with a tricked-out, deadly Corvette with a hostage in tow that the sheriff picks up his badge once more. This trailer explodes with Arnold’s iconic brand of action with some modern upgrades since his time in office.
.
Take-away: He’s got Jackass Johnny Knoxville as a trigger happy side-kick!
.

Seven Psychopaths

.
Seriously? A movie written by brilliant dark comedy auteur Martin McDonaugh (In Bruges, Lieutenant of Inishmore) starring Sam Rockwell as a professional dog thief with Christopher Walken as his non-violent partner in crime? You should be rolling within seconds of this trailer. Woody Harrelson also stars as the psychotic, vengeful owner of the dog they steal who will go through anyone he has to to get his precious companion back. And ladies, almost forgot to mention Colin Farrel plays a writer who just happens to be friends with said thieves who drag him into this bloody mess in Seven Psychopaths.
.
Take-away: The internet can’t wait for more Walken’s signature delivery gems that no doubt will be quoted often by imitators with the pauses and everything.

For Ellen

.
Paul Dano gives a heartbreaking performance in For Ellen playing musician Joby Taylor who is about to lose custody of his daughter. Granted, he seems like quite the absent father when his own daughter says, “You seem like a nice person”. This indie promises to explore the realities of seeking fame and fortune while neglecting a family that needs support and what happens when someone loses both.
.
Take-away: The haunting melody Paul Dano sings for his daughter in the trailer adds more melancholy to his tale.
.

Red Dawn

.
After the United Stated becomes occupied by North Korea, a gang of kids band together to take back their land. Before The Hunger Games and The Avengers, Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson starred in this flick that lost a distributor when MGM fell. Now fans of both leading men can enjoy seeing them take up arms in defense of their people! Thor Hammer and Peeta baking skills not included.
.
Take-away: Blink and you’ll miss a glimpse of Connor Cruise (Yes, Tom Cruise’s son) in the trailer!

End Of Watch

.
Jake Gyllenhaal returns to the screen in End of Watch, David Ayer’s (The Fast and The Furious, Training Day) new take on a cop drama. What’s interesting to note is that this film was shoot using P.O.V., surveilance, night vision, and hand-held cameras that give it a very realistic feel. This red-band trailer is very NSFW with intense re-enactments of crime and punishment that are sure to give more perspective on the lives of the Police force.
.
Take-away: The night vision sequences and the effects really bring home the brutality of one of the most dangerous jobs out there.

HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE

.
This inspirational film about how a group of people can call to action to make change is a must watch. It’s a documentary that follows the movement to push those in power to help find a cure for AIDS and the courage to keep fighting even when help was not given. Only a glimpse into this relevant topic is enough to see that it does not matter what is fought for, activism is a vital right that does affect history. Here is the proof.
.
Take-away: Go out there and fight for what you believe in!
.
Come back next week for a new batch of sneak previews.
