Christian Bale, who played Batman in Chrisopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series, showed up Aurora, Colorado, today. He took time away from the filming of Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups in Los Angeles to visit the the makeshift memorial that has been set up across from the theater where the shooting took place, as well as visiting the victims at the Medical Center of Aurora.

His visit comes just a few days after a ground roots social media campaign on Facebook circulated asking for the Batman to pay a visit to the victims, who are among his biggest fans. He was accompanied by his wife, Sibi Blazic, as he met the survivors and took time to talk with them and pose for photos. Bale spent over two hours at the hospital, visiting seven people who are still being treated for injuries, including two from the Swedish Medical Center. He also took time to visit with the doctors, Aurora police officers and emergency medicial technicians who were among the first responders on the scene on Friday morning. He also spent some time with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Bill Voloch, the hospital’s interim president, told the Denver Post that the visit was very appreciated by all:
.
“The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see Batman and were really pleased to see Bale. It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming.”
.
In preparation for his visit, Bale said he just wanted to see the injured and asked that the media not be notified of his arrival. Even Warner Bros. had nothing to do with Bale’s visit, saying “Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers.” If that doesn’t make him a real life role model, I don’t know what does.
.
Mad props to Christian Bale for making the dreams of these survivors come true.
