In celebrity circles, stalking is just another thing that crops up from time to time. There’s always one fan in a million who is just determined to go the extra mile and do whatever it takes to be next to their favored celeb. The latest star to have to deal with this issue is the ultra-talented singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor, Usher.

According to TMZ, Usher had to obtain a restraining order against Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw, a 26-year-old woman who believes that she’s married to him. Apparently she showed up to his Georgia home on June 23rd and demanded to be let inside. The police were called and escorted her away from the scene. But she was determined, and showed up again the next day. She was then placed under arrest and a temporary restraining order was issued against her.

This year alone, we’ve reported quite a few celebrities who have been stalked, including Kate Bush, Kim Kardashian, and Mila Kunis. Even Selena Gomez has had a run-in with a stalker.

So what’’s the deal with stalkers? What motivates a stalker? Researchers have come up with some clues … most stalkers exhibit a mental disorder as well as a personality disorder, like extreme narcissism or dependency or an inability to sustain close relationships. However, this isn’t a hard and fast rule that can be applied in every case. The one thing that the researchers all agreed on was that this is no single profile of a stalker.

The other thing to know about stalkers is that anyone can be a victim of one. While the only ones you hear about on the news are those who stalk celebrities like Usher, that is only the tip of the iceberg. The majority of stalking victims are regular everyday people who know their stalker and are usually former lovers or spouses. It’s a scary thought, but that’s the truth.

Stalking is a serious issue, not just for high profile victims, especially in this day and age with the internet. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel you are being stalked, don’t hesitate to contact the police. While most stalkers aren’t violent, some end up that way. Don’t become a victim.
