This week is one of the biggest weeks in fashion of the year, due to the annual Met Gala, which draws out all of fashion’s finest frocks for display on all of the hottest stars. Some dresses are a hit while others are a big miss, but there’s no denying the fact that this week brings out the creme of the crop in both categories. Today, we’ve put together our top 10 best and worst of the week, pulling mostly from the Met event, with a few stragglers making the cut from this week’s premiere of What to Expect When You’re Expecting.
Let’s begin with the lovely Nina Dobrev, who absolutely held her own against more established starlets in this Donna Karan Atelier dress. Based on this red carpet appearance, we expect big things to come from The Vampire Diaries star!

Meanwhile, we hate to be ugly, but the best days might be behind Sarah Jessica Parker, if this major misstep is any indication. She looks like the Amish version of the Laura Ashley bedspread we grew up with.

We have a major crush on Carey Mulligan, so it’s likely she could have done no wrong in our eyes. However, she looks absolutely fierce in this Prada dress. It’s amazing that someone with such a naturally sweet look can successfully transform into a fashion firecracker with just a little hair gel and some metallics.

We have to give Beyonce props for showing up to the event mostly naked just a few months after giving birth to her daughter. However, we hate this dress. It’s gaudy and un-flattering, and we’re going to go ahead and blame it on Beyonce’s baby brain.

Emma Stone is another girl crush of ours, and she looks absolutely adorable in this Lanvin dress. It’s simple but stunning , and who says redheads can’t wear red (on a red carpet, no less)? Major points for bravado!

Dear Florence Welch — Careful, lady. One more stunt like this on the red carpet, and you’re going to lose your “indie darling” status. We can almost get behind this dress…if someone were to remove the two tiers in the skirt, blindfold us, and spin us around 20 times…

Rihanna, who has had her fair share of questionable wardrobe decisions, looked absolutely gorgeous in this crocodile Tom Ford number. If only all of us could look this good.

Kristen, Kristen, Kristen. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS? We think the good people over at Balenciaga may have it out for KStew — for once, we understand why she’s not smiling. Also, those shoes are making our eyes bleed.

Our last two looks come not from the Met Gala but from the NYC premiere of What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Elizabeth Banks looked gorgeous — a relief after her hideous Met Gala number, which was so painful we couldn’t even bear to include it in this roundup — sporting a dress by Peter Pilotto.

Her gorgeous co-star Cameron Diaz, however, wins our worst look of the week with this haphazard, “over it” office-wear look. Everything about this outfit is all wrong — so wrong, in fact, that we would believe she did the walk of shame right over to this premiere. It’s the only explanation…
