Smashing Pumpkins have announced that their seventh album, ‘Oceania,’ will be released on June 19 via EMI. The band recently signed a worldwide contract with EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution that only excludes Canada, Brazil and Australia, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘Oceania’ is intended to be part of Corgan’s multiple-album, 44-track opus ‘Teargarden by Kaleidyscope’, making it what he calls an “album within an album.” ‘Oceania’ will be the band’s first album since 2007’s ‘Zeitgeist. The band has said they want to release the album to their fans without pre-releasing it to press or radio to make sure everyone hears it at the same time. The band’s manager Peter Katsis said in a statement, “We were excited to find partners in EMI Label Services that were equally passionate about the plan for the album release.”
.
EMI spokesperson Mike Harris said, “We are thrilled to extend the long-term partnership between The Smashing Pumpkins and EMI with the release of Oceania. Everybody at EMI is looking forward to working closely with Billy [Corgan] and the band to help them deliver their vision and their music to fans around the world.”

In an interview during SXSW, Corgan described the album as “old-school Pumpkins mixed with prog-rock.” You can watch his entire hour-long interview (featuring an interesting hat) below:
