When music historians look back on the ’90s and ’00s there’s no doubt that Smashing Pumpkins will be counted as one of the most influential alternative rock acts of the era. Whether you’re an old-school fan of the band or just learning about them, we highly recommend picking up the deluxe editions of the band’s first two albums: Siamese Dream and Gish.
.
Both albums were remastered by Bob Ludwig and also contain an additional disc of rare and unreleased material—and also include DVDs of concerts that were filmed between 1990 and 1993. “Looking back 20 years later on Gish what strikes me is although we made an album that’s very powerful; it still has a real electricity, especially when you crank it up,” frontman Billy Corgan says regarding the band’s 1991 debut in a new trailer promoting the reissues.
.
Just two years later the band would release that album’s follow-up Siamese Dream which contained some of the band’s biggest songs and confirmed Smashing Pumpkins as an integral force in music. “We did have hit songs on the record but they were definitely our hit songs, “Corgan says about the album which contained songs like “Disarm” and “Today.” “I think that’s why the album has endured and is significant; because it was both a commercial record but at the same time it was very much our own record and we insisted on that.”
.
The remastered versions of these landmark albums will be available digitally and in CD and vinyl formats. You can watch the full trailer with Corgan below if for some reason you need more evidence that these two releases are essential additions to your music collection.
