What do you do if one of your television show’s biggest stars is pregnant in real life, but isn’t supposed to be in the universe of your show? If you’re Mad Men creator Matt Weiner, you address the problem in a pretty bold way.

Avoiding the classic sitcom routine of having actress January Jones stand behind couches or sit at a desk all day, Weiner decided to tackle the problem with a fairly unique approach – he gave Betty’s character a tumor! But for all of you fans of the ice queen, have no fear: the tumor was benign, so we shouldn’t be expecting a dramatic mid-season death. Then again…this is Mad Men we’re talking about, here – a certain tractor incident in Season 3 shows these writers really aren’t afraid to do something outrageous, so we’ll have to keep tuning in to AMC on Sunday nights to see what happens to good old Bets.
