‘Hunger Games’ Still Leads At The Box Office, Blows ‘Twilight’ Movies Away

First, second, and third time has been a charm for “The Hunger Games,” with the movie taking in the number one spot at the box office for the third week running. Its performance is setting some records and practically ensuring we’ll see Katniss Evergreen returning in a sequel very, very soon.

“The Hunger Games” raked in over $33 million this weekend, bringing its grand total thus far to $302 million. It’s be come the second fastest non-sequel to break $300 million, right behind “Avatar.” In addition, this figure now places it ahead of all of the offerings in the “Twilight” series, and most of the “Harry Potter” movies as well.

“Universal Pictures
.
Second place this weekend went to “American Reunion,” whose break-out weekend brought in $21 million for the fourth film in the “American” franchise.
.
Twentieth Century Fox
.
Third place goes to James Cameron’s rework of his classic, “Titanic 3D,” bringing in only $17 million. I wonder if he needs 3D glasses to see black ink on this one? It seems to be moving away at this point.
.
Warner Bros.
.
Fourth place saw “Wrath of The Titans” pull in an additional $15 million, bringing its two week total to just under $59 million. With a production cost of around $150 million, it’s a pretty sure thing that this will kill the franchise.
.
Relativity Media
.
Fifth place goes to Julia Roberts and crew in “Mirror Mirror.” The retelling of this classic tale brought in $11 million this weekend, bringing its total to $36 million. Based on the reviews I’ve seen, perhaps its a good thing I skipped this one.
.
So how about you? Which movie (or movies) did you spend your hard-earned dollars on this weekend? Any regrets?
