Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has been busy directing a feature-length documentary titled Sound City, which chronicles the legendary Van Nuys, CA recording studio that played host to countless artists like Johnny Cash, Neil Young and, of course, Nirvana. Today the musician released the first look at the documentary, which seems like it will be deeply engrossing.

The documentary was directed and produced by Grohl and examines the history of the studio, which happens to be where Nirvana recorded Nevermind. Grohl wrote in a letter to fans, “Sound City is a film about America’s greatest unsung recording studio. Deep in California’s sunburnt San Fernando Valley, tucked away behind the train tracks and dilapidated warehouses, it was the birthplace of legend. Sound City is a film about the truth, the craft, and the integrity of rock & roll. Like the dark hallways of Sound City Studios itself, it might not be pretty… But it’s for fucking real.”

The teaser clip, which only clocks in at a minute, features appearances from Tom Petty, Mick Fleetwood, John Fogerty, Butch Vig and Trent Reznor, all whom seem equally enraptured with the space. Petty says in the clip, “That room really did sound just incredible.” Fogerty adds, “It’s tube driven, it’s analog. The bass sounds better, the human voice sounds better.” Watch below:
