Radiohead returned to the stage last night after delaying their current tour in light of the death of drum technician Scott Johnson, who was killed during a stage collapse. The band paid tribute to Johnson during last night’s performance in Nimes, France.

As the band played their track “Reckoner” during the third encore they filled the screen with photos of Johnson in memory, according to Consequence of Sound. See a photo below:

Johnson was killed when the band’s stage collapsed before a show in Toronto last month. Radiohead wrote in a statement after the incident, “As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members. The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace. Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with & consequently we have to try and reschedule the following shows.”

The stage set-up has since been repaired, but it is one of numerous stage collapses in the past year. Following the incident ndustry veteran Lars Brogaard called for a change in stage practice, according to NME. Brogaard recommended a shift in the material that is used to construct the stages, noting, “You need to go to steel. The shows nowadays are getting heavier and heavier with the lighting and the video screens. These aluminium roofs, they can’t take the weight.”
