2012 Emmy Nominations Are Out: ‘Mad Men’ and ‘American Horror Story’ Lead the Pack

The 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are quickly approaching, and today the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the list of nominees. AMC’s Mad Men and FX’s American Horror Story top the list with 17 nominations each. Coming in a close second are PBS’ Downtown Abbey and History’s Hatfield & McCoys with 16 nominations each.

This year’s awards show will honor the best in primetime television programming from June 1, 2011 until May 31, 2012. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel has been picked to host the event, which will take place on September 23, 2012 at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. ABC will televise the awards ceremony live within the U.S.
