Singer and actress Miley Cyrus finally announced her engagement to long-time boyfriend and actor Liam Hemsworth earlier this week. Now we know that Billy Ray Cyrus is on board and supportive of the couple’s engagement.

It was way back in 2009 that the couple began dating. During that time, Liam Hemsworth lived with Miley Cyrus and her parents. And while the public may be shocked by this announcement, word is that the parents already knew. According to RadarOnline, Hemsworth had asked their permission first.

The ring she is now wearing is an 18-karat gold, 3.5-carat cushion-cut diamond ring designed by Neil Lane. The ring features intricately carved diamond floral motifs. And the center stone is special, because it dates back to the 19th century.

Billy Ray Cyrus is apparently happy and supportive of his little girl, and tweeted as much:

“All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness…peace of mind…and someday know…true love.”
