Lollapalooza Day Three: Jack White, Glow Sticks, and the Final Day

Its over. After three days of music, parties and mud, it’s time to return to non-festival reality. A world where people covered in mud is considered unusual. (Side note: It is retrospectively hilarious that I packed my gym clothes. The closest I came to using the hotel gym was … No, I didn’t even do anything close enough to complete this analogy.) But I will leave Chicago with a couple blisters (legit battle scars — I bled for this), some new bands I’m excited about (Oberhofer), and asome great stories from the last couple of days.

RIP to the pair of muddy sandals I plan on leaving behind.

Hours slept: 6
.
Beverages drank: I plead the 5th.

.
Best show I saw today: The light show at Justice was ridiculous! But I had to rush from that show to catch Jack White, who is one of the few real rock stars of our time. I caught a little of Florence and The Machine, who despite being huge still has a bit of a “weird art school kid vibe,” which I find kind of endearing.
.
Most fun party of the night: After all the after parties, people still weren’t finished hanging out. So bands, artists, and festival enjoyers descended on the last thing open in Chicago. A super dive called George’s that was part bar, part liquor store and made for some of the best conversations of the night.
.
Celebrity sightings: Tim Meadows vibing out to Toro Y Moi.
.
Weird sightings: Two grown up twins wearing identical plaid suits.
.
Interesting trends: Glow Sticks. People kept handing them to me as I walked by which was cool cause a person can really never have enough glow sticks.
.
What people are buzzing about: All day long people were wondering if Jack White would play with his all male band or go with his all female band (he likes to switch it up). But in the end Jack went with both bands (it wasn’t quite Hologram Tupac but he still went big). The drummer in his all female band is the drummer from Autolux so for real pure rock it doesn’t get much better than that.

Projected bedtime: 4am (There’s always tomorrow for sleep.)
