Gerard Butler stars as George, a soccer player past his prime who reunites with his son to coach his soccer team while figuring his life out. Jessica Biel plays the mother of his child, who is about to get married unless George can somehow win her heart … or will he chase a great career with ESPN and leave his family behind? That job offer comes thanks to Catherine Zeta Jones’ character who along with the other soccer moms (including Uma Thurman) swoon over Butler and may just try to get in the way of him winning back the heart of his old flame. Looks like lots of Gerard Butler shirtless or pants-less in the trailer!

3,2,1….Frankie Go Boom

A tale of two brothers, Bruce (Chris O’Dowd) is clean and sober, but still up to his old tricks at his brother Frank’s (Charlie Hunnam) expense. Taking initiative to become a director, and recording all the pranks he pulled on his younger sibling, Bruce brilliantly plants a camera in Frank’s room while he tries to hook up with a girl (the hilarious Lizzy Caplan). However, things go awry when Frank finds out about the video and goes on a mission with Bruce to stop the father of the girl he hooked up with from seeing it on the internet.

Zero, Dark, Thirty

Hurt Locker director Katheryn Bigelow brings us her take on the ten year hunt to bring down Bin Laden in Zero, Dark, Thirty. The movie boasts a stellar ensemble cast which includes Kyle Chandler, Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Mark Strong, Mark Duplass, Frank Grillo and Jennifer Ehle. Very much a teaser, there aren’t many details about the plot in this preview but enough to keep the viewer intrigued. It is said Bigelow received unprecedented access to information and details regarding the capture in order to respectfully and accurately represent this momentous period in current history, so seeing the film may be revelatory.

This is 40

.
Judd Apatow’s This is 40 is the sort of sequel to Knocked Up, centering on the lives of the couple Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd played in the 2007 comedy hit. It is unclear whether this picture will be just a straight-out comedy like Knocked Up or a drama with comedic tones like Funny People, which received mixed reactions. This is also Apatow’s first film which will star Leslie Mann, his wife, and his two daughters. No doubt that the chronicle of the on screen family will explore very personal experiences that the Apatow clan may have lived. Or maybe not…

On The Road

Jack Kerouac’s beloved coming of age story is being brought to the screen by director Walter Salles (The motorcycle Diaries). Starring Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Amy Adams, Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst, On the Road is a picture of one generation’s search for life by exploring the ups and downs on their journeys. It would be unfortunate if Stewart’s controversy were to affect the reception of the film.

The Master

Joaquin Phoenix stars as a man struggling to adjust back into society after coming back from the war. He finds kinship with Philip Seymour Hoffman, another vet who creates a religion to help make sense of how things have changed since their return. Paul Thomas Anderson tackling a cult/religion in The Master promises to make this a contender in the upcoming award season. The intensity of Phoenix’s performance and Hoffman’s ability to play the complexities of a man who may not be who he says he is, really makes this a stand-out feature.

Take-away from trailer: Amy Adams is also not to be missed and surely will be seeing nominations for best supporting actress.

Liberal Arts

.
Not only does Josh Radnor (Ted from How I Met Your Mother) star in this, he also wrote and directed this Sundance favorite. It’s the story of Jesse (Radnor) who is invited back to his alma mater where he meets a young 19-year-old college student (Elizabeth Olson) and falls for her. Will the love that springs between a young woman and older man prove strong? This quirky, indie romance hopes to capture the many experiences of college life.

Trouble With The Curve

Clint Eastwood stars as baseball scout who is becoming too old for his profession which seems to spring more and more young slick young guys in the field who aim to faze him out. He reunites with his estranged daughter (Amy Adams) to show that he still has it in him to select players for a game that he believes the new guys don’t understand the meaning of. Justin Timberlake also co-stars in this feature which seems more lighthearted and comedic than most of Eastwood’s recent dramatic pieces.

Take-away from trailer: Seems Amy Adams will be going up against herself for that Oscar.
