Through the Years: Robert Pattinson
Posted 3/1/2012

Getty Images/Eamonn McCormack . We’ve been waking up lately with this really empty feeling inside — the sense that something’s missing in our lives, but we don’t know exactly what that something is. Then, we stumbled across a photo of Robert Pattinson (read: the one we’ve taped above the bed) and realized it’s him we’ve been needing! Since we haven’t seen much of our future husband lately, we decided to be the crazy stalkers we are and revisit his past so we can better fantasize about our future (with him). Robert was born in London in 1986. At the age of twelve, he began modeling. At the same time, he joined an amateur theatre group called the Barnes Theatre Company. While with the company, he had parts in plays like Our Town, Guys and Dolls, and MacBeth. . . After a few years, Robert’s modeling career fizzled out. He attributes this failure to the fact that he was growing out of his youthful, girlish looks and into the sculpted manliness we know him for today. In 2004, when he was 18, Robert’s career rebounded in a major way when he landed a role in the Reese Witherspoon film Vanity Fair. However, his scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. . . In 2005, Robert had better luck as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. As a result, The Times named him their “British Star of Tomorrow.” . . Harry Potter may have gotten Robert noticed, but it was the next saga he starred in that changed his life forever. In 2008, RPatz — as he would soon be known worldwide — took the lead role in the film Twilight. Pandemonium ensued, and the film eventually grossed nearly $400M. That same year, Robert also appeared in the small indie film Little Ashes as a young Salvador Dali. Perhaps not shockingly, that little film was completely overshadowed by Twilight. . . In 2009, Robert reprised his role as Edward in the Twilight sequel New Moon. He was also named as Vanity Fair’s “Most Handsome Man In The World” as well as one of their “Top Hollywood Earners of 2009.” Robert also presented at the 81st Annual Academy Awards that year, and was the subject of a documentary about his fame called Robsessed. In other words, life got really rough for the 23-year-old star. . . The following year, RPatz executive produced the small romantic drama Remember Me. He also starred in the ever-so-slightly bigger film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. That same year, Time Magazine named him as one of their “100 Most Influential People In the World.” . . In 2011, Robert and longtime girlfriend and co-star Kristen Stewart got married onscreen in the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The film got mixed reviews, but has grossed over $700M to date. Last year, Robert also reunited with Reese Witherspoon in the film Water for Elephants. This time, however, his part did not end up on the cutting room floor. . Getty Images/Ian Gavan . . Though it feels like it’s already been an eternity since we last saw Rob, relief is on its way. This year, we’ll get to see him play a lothario in the film Bel Ami opposite Christina Ricci and Uma Thurman. We’ll also get to see him in the David Cronenberg film Cosmopolis, as well as in the final (sad!) film in the Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2. . . That’s a lot of Rob, and we get the feeling that this is just the beginning for him. What would you like most to see Rob do next? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
