Rock The Bells lineup announced
Posted 5/25/2010

If you’re a hip-hop fan, today is basically like Christmas for you. That’s because the organizers of Rock The Bells announced the lineup for the seventh annual edition of the festival, which this year features performances from Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, KRS-One and Slick Rick. However, believe it or not, that’s not even the impressive part. That would be the fact that all of these artists will be performing their classic albums in its respective entirety.

The standpoint announcement is unquestionably that the Wu-Tang clan will perform 1993’s Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), arguably the greatest hip-hop album of all-time, live from beginning to end (a pretty amazing feat, considering that it’s hard enough to get all of these dudes onstage at the same time.) Additionally, Rakim will perform Paid In Full, Slick Rick will take on The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick and KRS-One will treat fans to the 1987 genre-spanning album, Criminal Minded.

In addition to these milestone acts, the festival has also teamed up with the non-profit group Hope For Haiti for the Freestyle Sessions, which will feature some of the world’s premiere breakdancers performing to raise money for a worthy cause. “This time of year is always filled with anxiety, excitement, and even relief,” said Rock the Bells founder Chang Weisberg. “Rock the Bells fans have the craziest expectations and the days and nights leading up to our initial announcement are surreal. Ultimately, our goal is to always present something that is historic. This year’s show is the epitome of that tradition. Some things new and fresh, some things classic and legendary, and something that you’ve never seen or may never see and hear again.”

Rock the Bells will also feature Murs and 9th Wonder, Clipse, Brother Ali and Tom Morello’s Morello and Boots Riley’s Street Sweeper Social Club. The four-city tour will kick off on August 21 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernadino, California, and make stops in San Francisco and New York’s Governors’ Island before finishing up at the Merriweather Pavilion in Washington D.C. eight days later.

If you couldn’t make it to last night’s Launch Party in L.A., be sure to check out video from the exclusive event, which saw an annual tradition of Supernat freestylin’ the complete list of artists performing this year.
