Snoop Dogg is now Snoop Lion – at least for the purpose of his new single and upcoming new album. The rapper released a reggae track called “La La La” over the weekend and plans to fully unleash his new alter ago on his Reincarnated album.

“La La La,” which was produced by Major Lazer, is a full-on reggae number, a surprising departure for Snoop although one that ends up working. Snoop Lion, the artist behind the track, seems dedicated, too. He’s created a Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr (may we politely suggest he get a Myspace page?) and has reached out to celebrities through Twitter to send them a link to “La La La,” as well as “postive vibes.” Listen to the single below:

This is not Snoop’s first name change. The rapper, born Calvin Broadus, Jr., was initially called Snoop Doggy Dogg, but eventually dropped the Doggy from his name. It’s unclear whether Snoop Lion is a temporary name change for the purpose of this record or whether he’ll exist further into the rapper’s career. According to the rapper’s website, Snoop Lion & the Jungle will make their first live appearance on August 3 at Toronto’s Caribana 2012. Snoop’s upcoming album has yet to receive a release date, but based on this single’s release we’d say it’s coming soon.
