Listen: Gorillaz/Andre 3000/James Murphy Converse Collab
Posted 2/23/2012

.

Finally the highly anticipated collaboration between Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and James Murphy has arrived. The track, “DoYaThing,” is available today for free download via Converse.
.

The track was recorded over the course of three days in London for Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” series. But, as it turns out, this is just a taste of a 12-minute version of the track that will debut on the Gorillaz website in the next few weeks. Damon Albarn told Pitchfork, “Music inspired by a shoe is quite a hard thing to get your head around. It’s got to be quite abstract.” That upcoming version, which was recorded live, is apparently a better representation of the trio’s work together. Albarn said, “That’s the story of what happened over the course of those three days. It’s a nice narrative.”
.

A video for the Converse version, which is a solid song with some impressive rapping by Andre 3000, will be released on February 29. And, if things come together, it sounds like this collaboration could yield further work amongst the artists. “There are no plans yet, but I certainly would do it again,” Albarn told Pitchfork. “If we’d have had two weeks, we could have made a whole record, I’m sure of it.”
