LCD Soundsystem announce farewell performance
Posted 2/7/2011

.

What’s going on? First, the White Stripes call it quits. Now, LCD Soundsystem have announced their final show. The group have confirmed that their performance at Madison Square Garden on April 2 will be the “final, definitive and ultimate LCD live show.”

.

The show is being called “LCD Soundsystem: The Long Goodbye” and will feature three hours worth of music from James Murphy’s indie-dance outfit. According to the press release, the performance will consist of the “lengthiest most career-spanning set the band has ever played. Those attending can expect the return of long dormant deep cuts from the LCD setlist as well as the first (and last) live performances of a number of never-before-played music spanning LCD Soundsystem’s decade-defining albums LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver, This Is Happening, the acclaimed 45:33 and more.”

.

The performance will also feature numerous special guests (who have yet to be announced), as well as choir, horn and string sections. The band have also instituted a dress code of black and white and ask that all audience members wear those colors for the show. Liquid Liquid will be the opening act.

.

LCD frontman James Murphy posted on the DFA Records message board, “We’ll be playing madison square garden on april 2nd, and that it’ll be our last show. we’ll be retiring as this live band after that… we’re playing, i think, something like 3 hours of music. stuff we’ve never played along with the music we’ve been playing for years now…. i’m really excited actually. we’ve been getting ourselves ready, and hope to play the best show of our lives.”

.

So let’s all hope “retiring as this live band” doesn’t preclude Murphy and his bandmates from making other music together in the future.
