It seemed inevitable that Lady Gaga would begin appearing in feature films. After all the pop star’s music videos are nearly feature film length themselves, and Gaga has a knack for inhabiting characters (remember her male alter ego?). But we weren’t expecting that Gaga’s rise to the silver screen would involve director Robert Rodriguez’s new flick Machete Kills.

The film is a sequel to 2010’s Machete, which starred Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro and Lindsay Lohan. The film stars Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Demián Bichir, Vanessa Hudgens and Cuba Gooding Jr. Gaga will be playing a character named La Chameleon, as the director announced today. He tweeted, “I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills , she kicked so much ass! Holy Smokes. Blown away!” and attached a photo of the singer in a poster for the film.

Gaga, who we have to say looks amazing on that poster, added, “Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress ln the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ IM SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane.”

Not a ton is known about the film, although IMDB describes the plot as “The U.S. government recruits Machete to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.” So is Gaga’s character good or evil (we’d go with evil due to her wolf head and pistol silencer)? The film is set to be released next year, which means Gaga will have a chock-filled 2013 as her next album is expected to drop next year as well. Are you excited for Lady Gaga’s acting debut?
