Label Signings: Riff Raff, Chief Keef, Chelsea Light Moving And More
Posted 6/22/2012

.
It’s official, Riff Raff is the latest signee to Diplo’s Mad Decent label. You may recall back in May, Diplo tweeted that he had spent $45,000 on a custom Mad Decent chain for the rapper, and Riff Raff later told Fuse that he signed to the label and was getting the custom chain to make it permanent. Mad Decent says that he is working on new material now, with his studio album set to drop sometime in 2013.

.
Chief Keef is the latest rapper to be courted by major labels to make the jump, and it didn’t hurt that his track “I Don’t Like” was remixed by Kanye West. In a recent interview with MTV’s RapFix Keef announced that he’s signed to Interscope Records. “I’ve been talkin’ to a lot of labels, but I just noticed that Interscope got people like 50, Eminem,” he explained. We agree, that’s pretty good company to be in.
.
Metal destroyers Children Of Bodom have signed to Nuclear Blast, a label they worked with early in their career. “We had a good, long, productive run with Spinefarm Records for fifteen years and now it’s simply just time for a change,” frontman Alexi “Wildchild” Laiho explained in a statement. “I’m absolutely stoked to start the new chapter of CoB’s career with Nuclear Blast and look forward to working with them.”
.
Britain’s Got Talent stars Loveable Rogues have reportedly been signed to a £500,000 record deal by Simon Cowell to his label SYCO. “Syco have high hopes. They’re the full package,’ an insider told the Daily Mail. ‘They’ve got the look, the sound and were writing quality music before they’d even hit the studio.” The band are working on their debut disc as we speak, so pop fans don’t expect the boy band explosion to stop any time soon.
.
Brisbane, Australia-based act The Grates have announced that they’ve signed to Vagrant Records in the U.S., and their third album Secret Rituals will be released through the label on July 10th. In a statement, the band explained, “Secret Rituals came from two amazing years of living in America, now we’re thrilled that’s it’s getting a release through Vagrant in it’s spiritual home. And conceptual home. OK, it’s home (just don’t tell anyone in Australia I said that OK?).”
.
The California metal act Early Graves signed with No Sleep Records, and their label debut is scheduled to come out in July. Guitarist Chris Brock explained, “after enduring every shitstorm the proverbial ‘universe’ can throw at us for last few years, we are extremely excited to be releasing our new batch of burners on No Sleep Records. No Sleep Records may not seem like a likely landing spot for a band like us, but Chris and No Sleep release music that they care about and want to work with, which is something we can definitely get behind.”
.
Finally, longtime Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore has started a new band called Chelsea Light Moving, and they have signed to Sonic Youth’s home Matador. Details about the album are still hard to come by but the band have released a song called “Burroughs.” The label’s site says of the song: “After sitting in the orgone box planted in Burroughs’ back yard of Lawrence, Kansas in the midpoint of the 1990s, Thurston Moore came to the realization that at some point he’d need to form a band that played Burroughs Rock. This is the sound of Wild Boys looking to jack hypos of core passion into their veins. Boy on boy. Girl on girl. Start there. It’s not even music – it’s an amphetamine sonnet for the on-the-loose lovers of the world.”
