mtvU has announced the nominees for their annual Woodie Awards and it looks this might be Kanye West’s chance to finally snag one of the trophies. The 2011 Woodie Awards will air live from Austin during the SXSW Music Festival and all the winners will, as usual, be determined by fan voting (better start tweeting now, Kanye).
.
Nominees this year include West, The Black Keys, Wiz Khalifa and B.o.B. West is up for the “Left Field Woodie,” which is given to the year’s “most original artist,” against actual original artists like Die Antwoord, Lil B, Yelawolf and Das Racist.
.
“We are excited to be nominated for the ‘Woodie Awards’ and are super stoked that MTV has been so supportive of our videos,” Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney said of his band’s nominations in two categories: “Woodie of the Year” and “Best Video Woodie.”
.
Matt & Kim are also up for an award in the “Performing Woodie” category against the National, Girl Talk, Robyn and Mumford & Sons. Matt & Kim told MTV of their nomination. “We couldn’t ask for a better category to be nominated in. Playing live is what this band is built on. And the nomination isn’t just for us. It proves our audience is the best, funnest and wildest party animals out there.”
.
B.o.B. said of his nod for “Woodie of the Year,” “mtvU is like home to me. This nomination is both an honor and a pleasure.”
.
Voting for all categories opened yesterday and will continue through March 1. Voting for the “Breaking Woodie” award will continue until the actual show in mid-March. MTV will announce the performers and presenters for the awards show in the next few weeks. Check out a full list of nominees and cast your vote here.
