Australian pop musician and DJ Havana Brown has toured with an impressive array of artists, including Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls and Pitbull. The musician, who got her start as a DJ, recently released her debut EP, When the Lights Go Out, here in the States via Universal Republic and has begun to get attention with her single “We Run the Night,” which features Pitbull.
.

Brown, who currently touring in the U.S. will the Latin rapper and will head back Down Under to continue the tour later this summer, performed in Los Angeles at the Gibson last night. Like Brown’s EP, her live show reveals all aspects of the musicians inclinations, from her DJ background to more recent pop artist aesthetic. The singer provided a solid opening backdrop for Pitbull, who woo-ed the crowd with an extensive setlist and guest appearances by Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez. We had an opportunity to speak with Brown yesterday before her performance and learned a few things about her touring background, EP and upcoming debut album.
.

How’s the tour with Pitbull going?
Really good. A lot of fun. The crowd just comes ready to party, which is awesome. Very nice, I feel pretty good. I mean he does make party music. I guess what do you expect.
.

When you open for a bigger artist is there something special you’re trying to get out of the tour?
My thing is I like to perform and entertain and I love doing these tours. Because there’s this added element of, well, they’re not necessarily there to see you, but that’s okay. You get to perform to a big crowd that’s very excited. And you get introduced to new people. I guess that’s probably what it is. The aim is to get out and to perform to as many people as you can. And what I love doing is performing and entertaining and trying to win over a new crowd.

Has there been one particular tour that you’ve done that you feel like really pushed you over the edge and got more people on board with your music?
Definitely the Britney Spears concert. When I was touring with her it took me to Europe, and it exposed me to the European crowds. She’s the biggest pop star in the world and I was on tour with her supporting her as the sole support act. It wasn’t like there was five support acts. I was the only one supporting her. So my fan base grew and people got to know me. They got to know me as a DJ. And this was before I had released any music and it was just a great lead up to me releasing music. I’ve got to thank Britney for that. I forever will be grateful… And now I’m on tour with Pitbull. This is my first American tour with a big major act. So that again, that’s insane for me.
.

Your new EP is your first release here in the States, right?
It is. We came out with “We Run The Night” and obviously you could go out with a next single. But I actually loved the idea of putting out an EP which had a few more songs in it. I just think it shows all aspects. You know, because on my album there’s all sorts of music. And having these songs showcases who I am as an artist… So there’s more music for people to hear and get to know me.
.

.

Will the songs on the EP appear on your debut album?
Yes, absolutely.
.

How long ago did you write and record these songs?
Over the last eight months – or even more actually. Maybe it’s ten months. Last year [in] November and December I was in Paris with RedOne. Just constantly writing, producing and getting songs recorded. And then we did another session in Sweden earlier this year. And I’ve been in the studio with other producers and writers constantly. These songs specifically on this EP now have been made over the last year.
.

When will your album will actually come out?
It will probably be early next year. We’re going to come out definitely with the next couple of singles and then we’ll do the album.
