Why are we never surprised when Courtney Love and a lawsuit show up together in the news? In the latest edition of Love’s struggle with the legal system the singer has been sued by her former assistant over unpaid wages and other dicey matters.

The assistant, Jessica Labrie, who was fired by Love, filed the suit in Los Angeles yesterday, citing wrongful termination, wage and breach of contract. The suit states Labrie worked as Love’s administrative assistant for about a year in 2010 and 2011, but was fired after she complained to Love that she was owed thousands in unpaid wages and expenses for business trips. Labrie allegedly suffered from headaches, insomnia and other medical conditions as a result of Love’s behavior, which, to be honest, sounds about right. Labrie’s laywer Joshua Gruenberg also notes that Love wanted Labrie to hire a hacker to change business records but the assistant refused.

According to E!, the suit states that Love “acted with an improper and evil motive amounting to malice or despicable conduct.” Labrie states that, in addition to repeatedly asking for the money she was owed, she voiced concerns to Love about the ethical and legal implications of the questionable things the artist allegedly asked her to do. Labrie was forced to quit the job in 2011 while Love still owed her over $2,000.

Love has not responded to inquiries about the lawsuit, but we’re sure she has something insane to say, probably via Twitter.
