One of the artists to watch this year is up-and-comer Azealia Banks, but now another rapper, Iggy Azalea, has been getting some attention for her relationship to A$AP Rocky and rumored signing to Def Jam. Name: Azealia Banks
Who is she? A Harlem rapper formerly known as Miss Bank$. Banks was briefly signed to XL Records, but left the label before making an album. She’s now working with famed producer Paul Epworth (Adele) on what will become her debut record.
Label: None, although we’re sure she won’t be without a home for long.
Has worked with: Producer Richard Russell, Epworth, Lazy Jay, Scissor Sisters.
Best known for: Her viral hit “212,” an aggressive, raw and extremely likable rap number.

Name: Iggy Azalea
Who is she? An Australian rapper who relocated to the States in 2006. Azalea released a mixtape, Ignorant Art, in September and will release her debut, The New Classic, early this year.
Label: None, although she is managed by Interscope and rumored to be joining the Def Jam roster.
Has worked with: Rapper YG, Chase N. Cashe.
Best known for: Dating rapper A$AP Rocky. She recently told Vibe, “I love him and that’s all there is to it.” Plus, she has a track called “Pu$$y.”

So basically, both rappers are spit-fire, raunchy musicians who are set to break out this year. But the best way to tell them apart? Just watch their videos. Banks is an amiable but powerful rapper and lyricist who is relying on the music to get ahead while Azalea focuses on her model-like image and glossy pop star aesthetic to draw attention to the fast-talking rhymes. Either way, though, we’re glad to see female artists getting attention.
