Fans of Mitch Hurwitz’s hilarious and short-lived series Arrested Development rejoiced when Netflix gave the series new life and a feature film adaptation was finally confirmed. Vulture scored some fresh details from Hurwitz and the cast during the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas, so read all about ‘em below!
.
Production is slated to begin this summer on the ten-episode fourth season that will ultimately lead into the full length movie. But the unusual part about their strategy is that Netflix is planning to release all ten episodes online to Netflix users at the same time instead of one-by-one in a normal season structure. This has pretty interesting implications for future Netflix shows – will they all be done like this? – and also, for those of you who love reading TV recaps, how are those going to change in light of this new development?
.
In any case, the ten-episode season was initially going to devote one episode to each main character on the show in order to catch viewers up on what they’ve been up to since the show went off the air, but now the plan is to have all of the episodes feel more like the old show. Also, since the show was built so much on the idea of running jokes and seemed to alienate audiences who came into it late, the concept of airing all ten episodes at the same time should work a lot better for fans who sit down and marathon the new season, allowing them to “get” all the jokes and pick up on references they may have forgotten if there were weeks in between viewings.
.
Hurwitz also said that they’d love to continue making more seasons of the show on Netflix after this one and the movie finishes up, so overall this is a bunch of great news for fans of the ridiculous Bluth family and their crazy antics.
