Despite having a relationship that’s more dysfunctional than the characters in a David Sedaris novel, Aerosmith are reportedly going to start work on their first album in a decade starting next month. The band’s reclusive guitarist Joe Perry posted via twitter yesterday, “Whole band has plans to go into the studio with Jack Douglas second week of July to work on new Aero CD.”
.
This probably comes as a shock for those of us who have followed the band’s dramatic past few years which included a disastrous attempt at making a record with Brendan O’Brien in 2009, frontman Steven Tyler’s onstage shoulder injury that same year that caused them to cancel their summer tour and, most recently, the barbs that Perry and Tyler have exchanged regarding the frontman’s decision to sign on as a judge on American Idol in 2010.
.
Earlier this year, the band reportedly recorded a series of demos in Los Angeles that Perry was “unavailable for,” but in a recentĀ Rolling Stone cover story on Tyler, writer Brian Hiatt described the new songs as “Slinky, riff-rock, big -chorused soul ballads, leaning more Seventies than Nineties.” So who wants to take bets on whether this album will come out before or after the next blink-182 disc?
